The Call to Write

The Call to Write
The Call to Write

I’ve always felt called to write, not just blog articles but books.

In particular, I’ve felt drawn in recent years to write about spiritual growth. Why do we know so much about spiritual growth, but so many of us seem to be stuck? How exactly do we grow? What role does the gospel play, and how can habits help us?

In short, what are the theological and practical steps that we need to take to grow into maturity as followers of Jesus Christ?

The Book

As I wrestled with these questions, I began to shape them into a longer project. Last May I booked a day to work on a book proposal that would help me explore these issues. I’ve been chipping away at this project, writing a few hundred words a day. This project is beginning to turn into something.

Here’s the great thing: I’ve signed a contract with Moody Publishers, and this book is coming out next year. I’m excited to see this book take shape, and I’m honored to be working with a great publisher like Moody.

The Timeline

As of today, I’ve written about 60% of the book. There’s still a lot of work to do. I have to write the rest of the content and edit it into something that’s worth reading.

My manuscript is due on December 15. Moody will further edit the book, and then next year we’ll begin to work on letting people know about it.

Then, on August 15, 2018, the book will be released. My prayer is that the book will help people develop gospel habits and to see transformation take place in their lives.

A Prayer Request

Would you pray for me? Please pray for insight and diligence as I work on this project. I write a little every day, six days a week, but I’ve blocked off two weeks in particular to work on this project:

  • August 21-27
  • September 25-October 2

I’m not interested in writing a book for the sake of writing a book. I want this to be a tool that will be genuinely helpful for those who want to grow into maturity — including the people in my church.

I appreciate your prayers, and I can’t wait to share more about this project with you in the coming months.
