If all goes well, I’ll be completing the last half-chapter of my upcoming book as you read this. Charlene and I traveled three hours north of Toronto yesterday to a writer’s residency in near-north Ontario. I’m surrounded by lakes, trees, and mosquitos, and the plan is simple: write and edit.

I’m excited to reach the end of my first draft, but then comes the hard part. I have a lot of editing to do. I like what I’ve written, but I know, for instance, that chapter two needs a major rewrite. I have a list of other changes I want to make in the other chapters too. I also want to see if I like it. It will be the first time that I get a sense of the whole book.

We also get to help narrow down the list of possible titles from ten to a two or three top contenders. After that, cover design should start in the next few weeks.

Here’s my request: if you’re the praying kind, I need your prayers. Please pray that what I write will be useful, and that my time here will be productive.

I’m grateful for the friends who contributed money toward this writing residency at my last birthday party. It’s the last thing that I expected. Now that it’s here, though, I plan to use it well.

I can’t wait to share more with you later. See you in a week.
