The Lord’s Prayer
Doing some research this week on the Lord’s Prayer. Two great quotes, one from John Piper:
If the kingdom comes in our lifetime, it will be because the church of Jesus Christ around the world has begun to take seriously the Lord’s prayer. It will be because we have recognized that the prayers, “Hallowed be thy name” and “send forth laborers into your harvest,” are the same prayer, and are the direct command of the Lord Jesus.
And this from Scot McKnight’s excellent book Jesus Creed:
Two years ago, as a result of pondering the Lord’s Prayer, I became convinced of its centrality for understanding Jesus. The Lord impressed upon me that if I thought this way, I needed to make it more real in my teaching. Now, when each of my Jesus classes is over, we all recite the Lord’s Prayer. I am daily amazed at the truth of what Tertullian, an early Christian leader, observed: “In the [Lord’s] Prayer is comprised an epitome [summary] of the whole Gospel.”
I’m looking forward to the rest of my study.
