My Preaching Cheat-Sheet

I read Haddon Robinson’s Biblical Preaching in seminary some twenty years ago, and promptly forgot about it for a decade. It’s okay to forget some books, but I forgot that one to my detriment, and my preaching suffered for it.

Haddon’s method isn’t really a method or style as much as it is a philosophy. It not only makes great sense, but it’s actually exciting (and hard work) to discover the big idea or the main thrust of a passage.

A couple of years ago, Peter Mead posted a series of questions based on Haddon’s method. I’ve printed them out and posted them beside my desk. In case you’re interested in my preaching cheat-sheet, here it is in PDF. I find it helpful to think through these questions as I move from text to sermon each week.
