Hi [subscriber:firstname | default:subscriber],
Here's a thought, a quote, and a resource I wanted to share with you this Thursday.

Make Time: How to Focus on What Matters Every Day talks about our tendency to live by default. “Default means the way something works when you first start using it. It’s a preselected option, and if you don’t do something to change it, that default is what you get.”
The problem with the default is that often puts us in reactive mode, feeling tired and frazzled.
The solution is to choose our own defaults.

I've been working at checking the news less, setting limits on my social media use (using the Freedom app), and reading more books. Books tend to refresh me; the news, social media, and even some podcasts tend to drain me.
It takes intentionality to set limits, but we’re a lot better off when we break the default cycle and choose the inputs we need.

“Distractions must be conquered or they will conquer us. So let us cultivate simplicity; let us want fewer things; let us walk in the Spirit; let us fill our minds with the Word of God and our hearts with praise. In that way we can live in peace even in such a distraught world as this.” (A.W. Tozer)

I have few entries on my bucket list, but one of them is to attend a performance of Andrew Peterson’s “Behold the Lamb of God” at the Ryman in Nashville.
It won’t happen this year, but I’ve already signed up for the December 6 livestream. Tickets are US$15 per household, and they also offer options for churches to allow their congregation to stream from home.
A friend told me about this concert a few years ago. I wish I had listened. It was a highlight of December last year, and I can’t wait to experience it again.
