Hi [subscriber:firstname | default:subscriber],

Here's a thought, a quote, and a resource I wanted to share with you this Thursday.
A THOUGHT

“Here there is not Greek and Jew, circumcised and uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave, free; but Christ is all, and in all.” (Colossians 3:11)

I’d read this verse many times, but I hadn’t thought much about the identity of Scythians. Scythians were from the north coast of the Black Sea. They were known as being barbaric, cruel, violent, uneducated, uncivilized, savage, ruthless, and inferior. Josephus said, “Scythians, who delight in murdering people and are little better than wild beasts.”

They were one level lower than barbarians.

And yet Paul says that, in the church, they’re at the same level as everyone else — even at the same level of Greeks, who were proud of their status.

Our world is divided right now. If Jesus obliterates the division between proud Greeks and barbaric Scythians, we can have every confidence he will obliterate divisions today within his church.
A QUOTE

“Here's how to determine God's will for your life: Go wherever your gifts will be exploited the most.” (John Stott)
A RESOURCE

TheGreatCourses.com has some great courses on sale, including The History and Archaeology of the Bible (sale ends today) and St. Augustine's Confessions (sale ends February 11). I’ve heard good things.
Thanks for reading!
