Hi subscriber,

Here's a thought, a quote, and a resource I wanted to share with you this Thursday.

Toronto is a notoriously hard place to plant a church. I remember a time when I complained about the “hard soil” of our city.

Around that time, I heard a network leader say, “I hear a lot of church planters complain about hard soil. I wish I heard more planters speak about the power of the gospel.”

I needed that reminder. No matter how resistant the setting, we need not be ashamed of the gospel, “for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes” (Romans 1:16).

I haven’t complained about hard soil since that day.

Full many a king a golden crown has worn,
But only one a diadem of thorn:
Full many a king has sat on jeweled throne;
But only One hung on a Cross alone.

My friend Tim Kerr has given me permission to share two resources with you (both in PDF):
  • An extensive bibliography of recommended theology books & commentaries by Jeff Purswell, director of theology and training for Sovereign Grace Churches and dean of the Sovereign Grace Pastors College. “This is pure gold,” Tim says.
  • An extensive Statement of Faith (40 pages) that took seven years to complete with elder involvement from all the Sovereign Grace Churches churches, spearheaded by our stellar theological committee.
Worth reading and saving.
Thanks for reading!
