Hi [subscriber:firstname | default:subscriber],

Here's a thought, a quote, and a resource I wanted to share with you this Thursday.
A THOUGHT

I heard a friend talk about going for a walk every day without his phone. I shuddered. When I go for a walk or drive, and when I’m doing chores, I’m generally listening to a podcast or an audiobook.

While driving this week, I heard a writer warn against what C.S. Lewis called the Kingdom of Noise. Living without silence and time to think robs our ability to think, be creative, and rob depth.

I immediately turned off the audiobook and enjoyed the next hour in silence in my car. It was wonderful.

Living outside of the kingdom of noise has become harder since the era of the smartphone. I’m working on the habit of cultivating more alone time without headphones.

It’s a good thing to dissent from the kingdom of noise.
A QUOTE

“Music and silence—how I detest them both! … All has been occupied by Noise—Noise, the grand dynamism, the audible expression of all that is exultant, ruthless, and virile … We will make the whole universe a noise in the end.”

(Screwtape, a senior demon writing to an underling in C.S. Lewis’s The Screwtape Letters)
A RESOURCE

I’m pretty picky with the newsletters I receive. I really enjoy Reagan’s Roundup by Reagan Rose. It’s “a weekly newsletter about personal productivity from a Christian perspective.” You can check it out here.
Thanks for reading!
