Hi subscriber,

Here's a thought, a quote, and a resource I wanted to share with you this Thursday.

We just entered the ninth month of this year, but it feels like 2020 has been going on forever.

My wife, Char, recently meditated on Genesis 6 to 8. She noticed how much Noah had to wait. Although the timing is a little tricky to figure out, Noah waited at every stage: before the flood, during the flood, and while the water receded. The ESV Study Bible estimates the entire time in the ark as 370 days. Imagine the smell. Imagine the boredom.

I found Char’s reminder encouraging. Time may move slowly from our perspective, but God’s not in a rush. It appears that, sometimes, God wants us to learn how to wait. Luci Shaw writes, “During a time of waiting, God is vibrantly at work within us.”

“Integrity keeps looking better and better, doesn’t it, friends? Not successful, cool, smart, rich, connected, and all other forms of big-deal grandiosity. Just integrity. Showing up, doing the right thing, serving others, paying the price. Let’s bring integrity back.” (Ray Ortlund)

I recently completed the Tiny Habits free five-day program for the second time. It involves some 25 minutes of preparation on the weekend, and then 3 minutes a day from Monday to Friday. “In less than 40 minutes total, you'll learn skills that will benefit you for life,” the website promises.

I recommend it. It’s useful for anyone who wants to learn about the Tiny Habits method (outlined in the book by the same name). It’s also worth thinking about how to apply the method in our ministries.

Check it out here.
Thanks for reading!
