Our church is going through a series on what it means to be the church. It made me think of George Costanza and his Opposite Strategy.
|
Culture values freedom, autonomy, and convenience. We think we want these, but they give us the opposite of what we need.
|
Church is about restricting our freedoms and autonomy. It’s inconvenient and counter-cultural, and yet leads to life.
|
Perhaps it’s better to emphasize how costly church, and that it’s the opposite of our natural tendencies — and also exactly what we need.
|
