Hi subscriber,

Here's a thought, a quote, and a resource I wanted to share with you this Thursday.

Our church is going through a series on what it means to be the church. It made me think of George Costanza and his Opposite Strategy.

Culture values freedom, autonomy, and convenience. We think we want these, but they give us the opposite of what we need.

Church is about restricting our freedoms and autonomy. It’s inconvenient and counter-cultural, and yet leads to life.

Perhaps it’s better to emphasize how costly church, and that it’s the opposite of our natural tendencies — and also exactly what we need.

“We do not want, as the newspapers say, a church that will move with the world. We want a church that will move the world.”

(G. K. Chesterton)
